For more than two years, hundreds of e-bikes and mopeds
have crowded a residential corner on E 11th Street and 1st Avenue near homes, local businesses, and
a local elementary school. People should be able to walk through their own neighborhood safely and without obstruction.
With over three hundred e-bikes and crowds of people at all hours, there are now major constant issues of accessibility and sanitation.
Despite numerous complaints to city officials and the local community board, almost nothing has been done.
That is why we are taking action: to demand an immediate, equitable solution that keeps this corner safe and accessible for everyone.

The sidewalk and street are being treated like a storage lot.
Bikes and mopeds are clogging the street and sidewalks at E 11th Street and First Avenue. The result is a recurring problem for everyone who walks, lives, studies, or runs a business on the block. And the problem has only been getting worse.
- Sidewalk crowding makes it harder for seniors, people with disabilities, parents with strollers, and other pedestrians to move safely.
- Congestion blocks sightlines and paths of travel at a busy corner near homes and a school.
- Trash and ongoing disorder make the block harder to maintain and diminish the quality of life for the people who live here.
What residents are asking for
There are better places for bike parking and charging.
Delivery workers deserve safe places to park, charge their bikes, and take breaks. But this residential corner cannot carry the burden at the expense of the people who live and work here.
We are asking for the following:
- City agencies should promptly address sidewalk and street obstructions at E 11th Street and First Avenue.
- The City should move bike parking and charging away from this residential corner immediately, and issue citations when needed or confiscate bikes.
- Community Board 3 should address the issue publicly and work with the City on a lasting plan to protect pedestrian access, sanitation, local businesses, and safety near P.S. 19.
